FARMHOUSE CLASSROOM DECOR
I'm so excited to share my NEWEST CLASSROOM MAKEOVER with you all today! Helloooo shiplap! This Farmhouse Classroom Decor isn't over the top, but it DOES have hints of shiplap and greenery, and just a few pops of color! I hope you love it as much as I do! I'll list all the items used at the end of the blog post!
My good friend let me come into his 3rd grade classroom for a much needed makeover! While his classroom was quite organized to begin with, he hadn't done much updating over the last few years. So, I JUMPED at the chance to give him a CLASSROOM MAKEOVER that was budget friendly and with minimal disruption to his busy classroom (that's right, we completed this makeover DURING the school year).
I'm so excited to share some tips and tricks with you to help YOU make some updates to your classroom that are budget friendly and oh so cute!!
First Step -> Bulletin Boards
The back wall is the focal point when you walk into the room, so I really wanted it to POP! The school itself is an older building (historic actually) so that gives you an idea of the YEARS we are covering up.
Neither of us wanted to use paint, but the wall itself needed some freshening up. So to keep the makeover inexpensive, I went with Shiplap Paper! I found this 3 pack on Amazon for $30 and it was plenty for me to use on the back wall, two small bulletin boards in the front of the classroom, and his desk!
The bulletin boards cost me ZERO dollars to update, as I used the school's supply of butcher paper. Black paper for the background and crinkled strips of white paper for the bulletin board border. Check out my picture below to see how easy this is to do for yourself!
Hustle & Heart (Reward Tag Display)
I added a special place for the SAG TAG Display (Student Achievement Goals) with the phrase "hustle & heart" so students who demonstrate those qualities would take pride in their SAG Tags!! The tags hang from clear thumb tacks.
Classroom Jobs, Rules, and Math Talking Stems.
Next we updated the classroom rules (this school follows the 3 R's -> Respect, Responsible, & Right Thing), class jobs, and math talking stems.
In an effort to keep the classroom jobs EASY to manage, I used Stikki Clips! These little clips are AMAZING!!! You can easily slide things in and out. In the past I used velcro for this job, but it has since been replaced with these ingenious little clips!! Grab them on Amazon HERE.
Another interesting tidbit about this classroom is that Mr. Todd is a MATH TEACHER so I wanted to do some special, math themed areas in his room. At the front of the classroom I placed the phrase "be a PROBLEM SOLVER."
The trick with hanging large letters is using painters tape!!!! Doing this allows you to space it and make it straight before hanging it. (Thank you Instagram for that fabulous teacher hack! If you're a fan of teacher hacks, don't miss THIS POST )
I also love the CUBES math strategy so I made a shiplap version to match the decor! I love how it turned out!
I added this MATH acronym (Mistakes Allow Thinking to Happen) near his group table! I thought it was the perfect reminder for students who are working to learn new, hard things!
In the back of the room I placed the phrase "we are MATHEMATICIANS" and each letter in the word MATHEMATICIAN is a different math tool or manipulative. For example, the M is made out of rulers.
It was the perfect pop of color I needed to make this space look amazing! I'm so in LOVE with how it turned out!! And best of all, Mr. Todd's students love it too! You can grab these 3 MATH DISPLAYS in my TPT STORE HERE!
Math Manipulative Cards
I updated the math manipulatives with a touch of shiplap too! I would definitely suggest laminating the cards so they hold up over time! Shoe boxes are a wonderful & inexpensive way to store manipulatives and other classroom supplies. Mr. Todd already had a collection of shoeboxes, but if you're in the market I suggest these Sterilite shoe boxes from Amazon. They hold up so well!
Date & Class Schedule
We placed the schedule cards near his white board, in the front of the room. Since Mr. Todd changes his schedule frequently, I placed the cards in a pocket chart so he could move things around quick and easy! You can find this Black & Gold pocket chart on Amazon HERE. I grabbed the pencil from Target (dollar spot find) and made the Calendar FLIP Cards (which you can grab for FREE HERE).
I placed these cute classroom posters right by the entryway! That's also a great place for the Sub Station, so any teacher that walks into the room will see it! (You can read more about my Sub Station in this blog post). The farmhouse lights are battery operated and I found them in the Target dollar spot!
Curtains (cheap Amazon find!)
I found these simple, black valance curtains on Amazon for SUPER CHEAP! They matched the room perfectly!
And here's a $$$$ budget saving TIP when purchasing from Amazon. When you click near the price of an item, it will say "Buy New" or some items give you the option to "Buy Used". I purchased these curtains for almost half price as "used" items and there wasn't a single thing wrong with them! Great savings!

This is great and love that you included money saving tips! I’m going into my second year teaching middle school SPED and I want the room to reflect more of a “home” vibe than last year! Super excited!

Thank you share the various hacks. The wood texture paper is it reusable year after year?

No, it's similar to butcher paper, and if you attach it to the wall I'm sure it would rip taking it down. You might be able to salvage some of it though!

I was wondering if you sell the CUBES posters you made and the math stems? This classroom decor set is absolutely stunning. It really makes me want to redo my room, unfortunately I will start the year out on maternity leave. It might be something I try next year though! :)

I bought those white stools from IKEA. Year 2: The plastic tops started to break off. All have now broke. No way to fix them either. Ugh. Cheap but not long lasting.

I was wondering how you made and attached the white crumbled paper around your bulletin board. What kind of paper did you use? Did you staple them to your board? Did you use a certain type of paper? I tried it but it didn't seem to look and move like yours . Thanks for any hints you can provide!
